Josefa Jaramillo was the mother of Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata. She was born in 1861 in the town of Anenecuilco in the state of Morelos, Mexico. Jaramillo played an important role in Zapata's life, supporting and encouraging him in his revolutionary activities.
Jaramillo was a strong and resilient woman who worked as a farmer to support her family after her husband died when Zapata was a young boy. She instilled in Zapata the values of hard work, independence, and fighting for justice.
During the Mexican Revolution, Jaramillo provided a safe haven for Zapata and his followers, and helped organize and support the Zapatista movement in Morelos. She also personally fought in battles alongside her son.
After Zapata was assassinated in 1919, Jaramillo continued to be involved in the struggle for social justice in Mexico. She died in 1942, but her legacy lives on as she is remembered as a strong and courageous woman who played an important role in one of Mexico's most significant revolutions.
